Button Ring Tutorial, Craft Month, and a Giveaway!!!

In honor of the first day of National Craft Month 2011, I want to do something fun. If you were all here, we would sit together at my table and have a make it take it. You would all leave with fun button rings.

But, that is not going to work, so the next best thing is for me to show you everything you need to know to do this at home.

Cute, right?

I made all of these from Blumenthal Lansing buttons.  Do yourself a favor and go check out all of their amazing buttons. They will inspire you.

Let's start by making these wired rings, shall we?

I used 22 gauge craft wire.  This is plastic coated wire, found in every craft store in the universe. It is very easy to work.  Here is what you do:

1. Cut two 12" lengths and one 24" length. Hold the two short pieces together. Wrap the center point of the long wire around the center point of the two short wires.

2.  Keep wrapping with one side of the long wire.

3. Then wrap with the other side of the long wire, going in the other direction.

Wrap until you can form a circle with the wrapped part that will fit your finger.

4. Twist the two wrapping wires together. Trim with wire cutters.  Push the twisted part up so it does not scratch your finger when you wear the ring.

Now go to your stash and select buttons. These are matte buttons, felt buttons, and small flower buttons from Blumenthal Lansing. You will find them at all the major craft and fabric stores.

5. You have four wires remaining.  String the buttons on the four wires. Stack different colors and shapes.

6. Twist two of the wires together to hold the buttons on the ring.

7. Decorate the four wires any way you choose. On three of my wires, I strung E beads. Seven on each wire. Then I wrapped each wire individually between the top button and the E beads.  Just wrap twice and trim the rest of the wire.

8. I used my round nose pliers to make a curlicue of the fourth wire. You can add larger beads, curl all of the wires, or curl the wires after you add E beads.  You are the designer, do your thing.

TADA!

Here is another button ring method. If you start with a button that has a shank instead of buttonholes, use wire cutters to snip the shank off the back.

Then set a ring finding into a blob of hot glue.  You are done.

For a little more button ring inspiration, go here. I call these "Ode to Ace of Cakes" rings. They look like fancy cakes to wear on your finger.

Now onto the GIVEAWAY!!!!!

These are brand new buttons from the Flower Garden line at Blumenthal Lansing.  They are just shipping to craft and fabric stores right now.  This is what you will receive if you are the winner.

And, I will throw in 6 silver ring findings too!

Just comment on this post to be entered. On Friday, March 4, I will have a random drawing to find out who wins. And then, I hope you will show and tell how you used them!

Happy National Craft Month, do something creative!

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that I featured your project on my site, www.AllFreeBeadedJewelry.com. I linked to your project:
http://www.allfreebeadedjewelry.com/Button/Bead-and-Button-Ring

I would like to know if I can link like this to you, including a photo, in the future. Or if you would be willing to allow me to post projects in full on the site - full credit will always be given to you, of course. It would be yet another source of traffic to your blog.

Please let me know, I would love to work with you further.
Thanks!
